The Carver Cruisers Yacht Club (CCYC) was founded in 1976 by Don and Ruth Martin, owners of Anchor Boats in Edmonds, Washington and Dorian and Judy Halvorson. In addition to being a Carver owner, Dorian was a Seattle Police Officer and a salesman at Anchor Boats.
The first organizational meeting was held on March 12, 1976. Officers were elected at that meeting and the first Club meeting was held on May 7, 1976. The first cruise was on June 12 - 13 and was comprised of twelve boats traveling to Port Ludlow from around Puget Sound.
Dorian Halvorson was killed in the line of duty in mid-1976, shortly after he designed the club’s burgee - two interlocking Carver logo “C’s”. The burgee was officially adopted at the first Annual Membership meeting on October 22, 1976. At that first meeting, Commodore Audrey Lunde presented a plaque from the board in memory of Halvorson entitled the “Dorian Halvorson Inspirational Award”. The award is presented each year to the member who has most inspired the club. Lifetime membership was given to Judy Halvorson at that meeting as well.
Our club has no clubhouse and no monthly meetings. Instead, a newsletter “Carver Carvings” is published monthly to keep members informed of club happenings and an annual meeting is held in October of each year for the purpose of conducting club business.
